Giovannino Tumminia was a Vietnam War soldier. He was born on the 24th of October, 1928 in Cranford, New Jersey. Although he and his family moved frequently during his childhood, he lived in the state of New Jersey until sometime near 1940, when he moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi. After leaving New Jersey, he enlisted in the United States Regular Army in the year 1950. He began his first tour that same year in Korea. His unit was the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning, 65th Engineer Battalion. After three years, he returned to the United States. He would leave for the Vietnam War in the year 1965 and was killed the following year, in 1966. His unit remained the same for the duration of both wars. He would later receive the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. The photo above is the only remaining public photo of him, which was taken on 22 March 1966, eight days before his death.
