Tumminia served in the Korean War from 1950-1953. From what is known about the activities of the 65th Engineer Battalion, their three companies were placed to directly support the three infantry regimental combat teams from the 25th Division. This meant that they would follow the combat teams as they travelled to their respective destinations and they would disarm traps that might lie on the roads. Furthermore, although they were specifically assigned to the three combat units from the 25th Division, they were also instructed to clear mines and other traps, in addition to building combat infrastructures, for the Regular Army. They also fought as infantry soldiers when the occasion demanded. Finally, at the end of the war, Company A was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for support at Sangnyong-Ni, Company B received the Presidential Unit Citation for support at the 35th Regimental Combat Team’s fight at the Nam River, and Company C received the Presidential Unit Citation for aiding the 25th Division in the outskirts of the city of Taegu. The company in which Tumminia served in during the Korean War is unknown. The 65th Battalion served in all 10 campaigns of the Korean War.
